What is Therapeutic or Trauma Sensitive Yoga?

Because our lives are so busy and our schedules are so full, we often do not slow down to take care of ourselves. We all experience stress and anxiety from current circumstances as well as past events.

My Therapeutic Holy Yoga classes help individuals reconnect with their breath, bodies and emotions in a safe and non-judgmental environment.  I’ve learned that restoration & healing occurs best when the whole person is treated - heart, soul, mind, and strength. 

Therapeutic Yoga offers a unique holistic approach that speaks to the spiritual, emotional, psychological and physical parts of the self. This class format is also called Trauma Sensitive Holy Yoga (TSHY) as provides a place to come and be mindful of how the wounds of the past and present are carried in the body and gives tools for emotion-regulation in the presence of others who are pursuing their own healing.

The effects of the hard things one goes through in life and trauma can cause one to feel stuck. It can feel hopeless at times, BUT I am here to tell you there is HOPE to becoming unstuck and to find healing!! Healing comes through connection in safe relationships, breath, mindfulness, movement and most importantly connection with our triune God.

Who is Therapeutic Yoga for?
These classes are for everyone desiring a safe space of guided self-care through yoga. It doesn't matter your flexibility, body type, age, or skill level, all are welcome.

Why is this format so effective for those who have experienced trauma?
Trauma is a result of experiences that bring stress or anxiety.  The body records trauma in a way that may make us feel “stuck” with the memory and sometimes may impact our current relationships and choices. Therapeutic (or Trauma Sensitive) Holy Yoga offers the opportunity to explore how the body has carried these past wounds and gives permission to listen to and honor what the body needs in the present moment rather than remaining stuck.

TSHY is NOT counseling, but instead a space where individuals can explore their bodies and gain awareness into how their trauma may have impacted their bodies. 

TSHY helps release what the body has been holding onto and is a place where survives can find safety and rest.
